Well, we’ve made it through half of 2021 and while life has slowly started to go back to normal, I am pleasantly surprised that I’ve been able to keep up my higher reading rate from last year. My target for the year was 150 books and I’m already at 120 for the first half of the year. I’m proud of that, it’s amazing what a little less TV and more focus can do.
It’s also about choosing books that I enjoy, books that challenge me, books that open me up to new pieces of history or new perspectives.
So here are my mid-year stats:
120 books read
41,399 pages
82 books were ARCs or reviews that I had committed
32 by BIPOC authors
32 Fantasy / Sci-fi
25 Historical fiction
20 Thriller / Mystery
16 Contemporary Literature
11 Romance
5 Dystopian
3 Humor
3 Memoir
2 Audiobook
Clearly, I need to back off the fantasy a little! I need to get better with reading more BIPOC authors, I have so many on my TBR shelves but I need to make sure I prioritize them better. I’ve also been doing better with getting my Netgalley percentage up, I’m at 40% now but it’ll take me probably another year to get the recommended 80%. But I’ve stopped submitting new requests so hopefully that will help. I still haven’t found my stride with audiobooks, I’m so attached to my regular podcasts that I find it hard to slip them in and have them keep my focus.
Stay tuned later in the week as I break down my top 15 of the year so far.
How has your year gone so far? Do you have any specific trends? Do you have any goals for the second half of the year?
