If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I love a behind the scenes Hollywood story. I love living vicariously through the glitz and glam of a celebrity’s life, as an introvert who would never want such attention, I find it all so fascinating. This story ups that concept by giving you more than a peak behind the curtain, it gives you a peak behind the cocktail gown so you can see all of the scars and stretchmarks of the life of a mid-level actress. We see how she copes with the ins and outs of the inherent criticism and rejection of Hollywood with the attentions of men. This quickly becomes dangerous and controls Brianne’s actions. She gets to the point that the coping mechanism is not only not helping her cope but is becoming damaging to her life and to all the men drawn into the eye of the hurricane.
Brianne takes us on the journey through acknowledgement and recovery from sex addiction showing us the impetus of this behavior in her life as well as her successes and mis-steps along the way. We get some graphic and sometimes cringey Sex and the City level stories along the way. We get the raw truth of how hard it is to bring yourself to a place where you have a healthy relationship with the opposite sex but also yourself. The story is entertaining but has lots of poignant moments along the way.
Thanks so much to Brianne Davis for gifting her novel to me. All opinions above are my own.
